Sunrise

Sunrise is made from the merging of many videos of sunrises found on youtube. This work forges an understanding of Debord’s ‘spectacle’ as something to be celebrated.

Because of the tacit acknowledgement of ‘sharing’ involved in the act of posting a video on youtube, I consider this video to be the result not of appropriation, but of an ‘antisocial collaboration’ with unwitting partners. This mirrors the simultaneous togetherness and remove fostered by the internet, that sense of being alone in a crowd.
